Aba Communities Sue Nigerian Breweries Over Environmental Waste
The Nigerian Breweries PLC, Aba Plant has been dragged to court by the hosting communities and sued for N8bn over dumping of it’s waste in the river which is the only source of natural water in the communities.

In the document obtained by Newsleverage, the residents of the community lamented that it’s an attempt to reach an agreeable decision with the company has proved abortive.
The communities, Ogbor Ancient Kingdom and Eziama Amahia Autonomous Community which are in Aba North Local Government Area disclosed that it conducted a research and found out that the chemicals dumped into the river are harmful.
In the letter of litigation filed by their lawyer, Barr. Bright. I. Akpoaha Esq., dated 16th June 2019, the communities said that Nigerian Breweries has continued to discharge effluent water and other dangerous chemicals, including waste into ‘Iyi Aza Ogbor’, also known as ‘Waterside’ or Aba River.
