Police Apprehend Man Seen in Viral Video Assaulting Minor

The Borno State Police Command arrested 30-year-old Bukar Modu, seen in a viral video physically abusing a minor in the Bulabulin Alajeri area along Baga-Road, Maiduguri, on Saturday, 16th of March 2025, at 1 pm.

The suspect was recorded assaulting the 10-year-old boy identified as Bashir Babaji, who is his student for absconding from class.

According to SP Nahum Daso Kenneth on Monday, the Command, upon receipt of the video, launched a manhunt for the suspect to identify and apprehend him.

“With the support of vigilant community members and operatives of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), the suspect was successfully apprehended.

“The victim has since been taken to hospital for medical examination and evaluation while the suspect is in custody. The case is still under investigation, and they will be charged in court.

“While the Command appreciates the public’s concern and compassion over the incident, we urge citizens to refrain from making inflammatory or disruptive comments that could incite unrest or jeopardize ongoing investigations.”

The statement confirmed that while further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses, the Command is dedicated to upholding justice and ensuring the safety and welfare of all children in the state.
