Family Demands Justice After Teenager Drowns at Merryhome Hotels in Aba

OThe family of 17-year-old Divine Odide is demanding a thorough investigation and justice after the teenager tragicallyFamily Demands Justice After Teenager Drowns at Merryhome Hotels in Aba drowned in the swimming pool of Merryhome Hotels, located on Chief Ubani Street, Off 7Up Road in the Ogbor Hill area of Aba.

Divine reportedly visited the hotel on June 10, 2025, for a swim but drowned during the outing under circumstances the family describes as suspicious.

Speaking to Journalists in Umuahia on Wednesday, the bereaved father, Mr. Orji Odide, expressed deep concern over what he alleged was an attempt by the hotel management to cover up the incident and evade responsibility.

Mr. Odide appealed directly to the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, to step in and ensure the case receives the attention it deserves.

“The way this matter is being handled shows signs of suppression,” he said. “We need the government to intervene so that we can get justice for our son.”

The incident was initially reported to the Glass Police Station at 7Up, Aba, and has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Umuahia for further inquiry.

The Odide family is calling for a transparent and comprehensive investigation into the death, stressing that only justice can bring them a measure of peace.

Authorities have not yet released an official statement regarding the ongoing investigation.
