PDP Without Presidential Candidate in 2027 Like Worshipping a Beheaded Oracle – Ikem
Former Cross River State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Venatius Ikem, has described contesting the 2027 general elections on a platform without a presidential candidate as being like “worshipping an oracle whose head has been cut off.”
Ikem said this while explaining his decision to defect from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Arise TV, citing the party’s uncertain presidential prospects and lack of political visibility in Cross River State.
He argued that the PDP’s presidential candidate, Sandy Onor, exists only in name, alleging that he lacks the visibility needed to make the party politically relevant ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to him, the Nyesom Wike-led Rainbow Coalition has no political foothold in Cross River State, making continued participation in the PDP unproductive.
Ikem further said his decision to join the APC was informed by Wike’s support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, adding that he considered it more appropriate to openly align with the ruling party rather than support Tinubu’s ambition indirectly from within the PDP.
