Following the fight that brokered between visiting Enyimba FC and Abia Warriors at Umuahia Central Stadium on Sunday, the Commissioner of Sport and Youths Development, Mr Emeka Ikwuagwu has promised to investigate the cause of the incident.

He made this known through a press statement made available to Newsleverage reporter on Sunday.
He stated, “We wish to express our strong displeasure over the reported violence among fans that marred the football match between sister clubs, Abia Warriors of Umuahia and Enyimba Int’l FC of Aba, at the Umuahia Central Stadium that led to the suspension of the week 20 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) encounter between the two clubs representing the state.”

“While we are currently investigating the root causes of the incident with a view to appropriately sanction the culprits, we wish to call on fans and management of both clubs to ensure that such incident does not occur again. The state is proud to be the only one in the federation maintaining two clubs at that level but will not accept unwholesome rivalry between the sister teams.
The Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has directed Dr Mike Enyinna, his personal physician, to ensure that the injured receive adequate medical attention.”
Recall that on Sunday, a fight brokered between Enyimba International FC and Abia Warriors as they played and the game was postponed because of the fracas.
