COVID-19: Buhari Extends Lockdown, Warns Against Testing Students

At the PTF briefing highlights on Thursday, August 6, 2020, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the extension of the second phase of the lockdown for another four weeks in the country.

Speaking, the SGF and Chairman of the Presidential Taskforce committee on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha said this during the Presidential briefing.

Mustapha warned that no student should be tested but rather they should be monitored and isolated.

1. President Buhari approves the retention of current phase of National response to Covid-19 for another 4 WEEKS with modifications.

2. Nationwide curfew of 10pm – 4am remains.

3. Restrictions on mass gathering remains.

4. Tertiary & secondary schools remains closed EXCEPT for exit classes (SS3, JS3) that are allowed to write their exams.

5. Aviation to commence modalities for resumption of international flights.

6. Interstate travels continues outside the curfew hours.

7. Full working hours from Monday to Friday for civil servants from grade 12 and above.

8. NYSC to commence modalities to reopen camps but not within the current phase of lockdown.

9. Restriction on religious gathering remains.

10. Bars, cinemas, night clubs remains closed.

11. No new change in restrictions on market places

12. Day care and Primary schools remains closed. However, Primary 6 students can proceed with their common entrance exams as stipulated.

13. PTF does not recommend Covid-19 test of students before resumption. We recommend monitoring of symptoms and isolating suspected cases.

14. PTF recommends Banks to reopen fully for operational efficiency.
