Fire Accident: Ikpeazu Suspends Market Heads, Closes Market

The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, PhD has suspended the Chairman and all members of the Umuehilegbu Industrial Market Management Committee over the unwarranted attack on Abia State Fire Service Truck.

Earlier today, Umuehilegbu Industrial Market popularly called Bakasi Market, Aba was on fire and the fire service truck was informed.

Immediately they got to the Bakassi market, they were attacked and their vehicle destroyed.

Speaking with our reporter on grounds of anonymity, a trader stated that when the fire incident started, people were running around, trying to save some of their goods.

“The fire service was informed but they came late when the fire has razed most shops. The traders got angry and started destroying the truck while the truck drivers ran away for their lives.”

However, Governor Ikpeazu directed that the Chairman and all members of the Umuehilegbu Industrial Market Management Committee are suspended.

He also stated that the Police and other security agencies are to safeguard the market and equally arrest all perpetrators of the illicit acts for consequential prosecution.
