Adesina’s Victory: Buhari Reacts, Pledges Full Support in Second Term
President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Akinwumi Adesina on his victory and reelection as the President of African Development Bank Group with a 100 per cent votes from regional and non-regional members of the Bank.

President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Akinwumi Adesina on his victory and reelection as the President of African Development Bank Group with a 100 per cent votes from regional and non-regional members of the Bank.
Adesina was first elected on May 28, 2015, and reelected on 27th August 2020 following his victory which was announced by the Chairperson of the Board of Governors of the Bank, Mrs Niale Kaba and will serve a five-year tenure.
President Buhari reiterated the full support of the Nigerians Government to Dr Adesina on his second term in office.
He said, “I congratulate @akin_adesina on his re-election for a second term in office as President of the @AfDB_Group. It is a well-deserved victory. I have no doubt that in this second term Dr. Adesina will accomplish even more of his lofty vision for the Bank.
I thank the African Union for its early endorsement of Dr Adesina and also thank the shareholders of the bank who worked tirelessly for his re-election victory.
Let me reiterate my earlier pledges of the full support of the Nigerian government to ensure a successful second term for Dr Adesina. I pray that the Almighty God will continue to strengthen him and his team to deliver even greater development to the African continent.”
Meanwhile, Kaba who was delighted on the reelection of Dr Adesina said, “As shareholders, we strongly support the Bank and we will give him all the necessary support to carry forward and implement his compelling vision for the Bank over the next five years,”.
