A Secondary School Mathematics teacher at Ebenezer Grammar School Iberekodo, Abeokuta, Ogun State identified as Mr. Olaniran Lateef Adewale has been caught after he allegedly raped a girl.

According to Joe Emmanuela, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Public and Political Communication on Wednesday, one of the team members was alerted on the incident and the victim was quickly taken to the hospital for medical examination and treatment in collaboration with the Ministry of Women Affairs.

“On Saturday, a member of our team got a call from a young lady reporting that she has been raped by a man. We swung into action and located her, took her to the laboratory to run several tests before taking her to the police station to make a report.”

Thereafter, the police were contacted and they set out to the culprit’s house but on getting there, another cry of help was heard and several knocks and attempts to get the accused to open the door proved abortive.

“We thereafter went with the police to the accused home but after several knocks, he refused to open the gate. We were able to locate the brother of the house owner who assisted us in gaining access to the compound.

“We heard a girl’s cry for help when we got into the compound and with the support of the police, we caught Mr. Olaniran Lateef Adewale a secondary school mathematics teacher at Ebenezer Grammar school Iberekodo, Abeokuta, and a native of Ipokia Local Government of Ogun State with OGNO.30650 of Ogun State Teaching Service Commission.

“The girl with him also accused him of forcibly having sexual intercourse with her and threatening to kill her if she did not ask her family to send him money. Mr. Olaniran has been remanded at the Ogun State Command Headquarters pending more investigation by the police.”

Furthermore, the Commissioner for Women’s Affairs, Honourble Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye encouraged anyone with useful information about the accused to come forward and also encouraged Rape Victims to always report rape cases to the ministry.

She assured that the Victims will undergo counseling to help ease the unimaginable trauma.

“We say no more Victim Shaming! And We promise to get justice for the Victims.”

Reacting to the development, Governor Dapo Abiodun stated that law enforcement agencies have intensified their efforts to investigate instances of sexual assault and apprehend the culprits.

He urged citizens to be proactive in promoting awareness and educating our society about consent, personal boundaries, and the devastating consequences of sexual assault.

“I want to assure you that the government and law enforcement agencies are committed to tackling this issue head-on and ensuring justice prevails.

Our collective voice must resound in unison, condemning these acts and demanding justice for the victims. Rape is a criminal offence that leaves lasting scars on its survivors—physically, emotionally, and mentally. No individual should experience such trauma or live in constant fear of becoming a victim. It is our responsibility to reaffirm the values of respect, empathy, and compassion towards one another.

Our law enforcement agencies have intensified their efforts to investigate instances of sexual assault and apprehend the culprits. Additionally, support and counselling services have been bolstered to provide guidance and assistance to survivors during their journey towards healing and recovery.

However, as concerned citizens, we cannot stand idly by. We must actively promote awareness and educate our society about consent, personal boundaries, and the devastating consequences of sexual assault. By fostering a culture that values consent and respects individuals’ autonomy, we can gradually eradicate this despicable behaviour from our society.

Furthermore, I strongly urge everyone to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or incidents related to rape promptly. Your cooperation and involvement are vital in helping the authorities take swift action and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Together, we can create an environment where perpetrators of sexual assault are held accountable for their actions and victims are no longer silenced.”
