A tragic incident occurred on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at an eatery in Rumukrushi, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Rivers State, where a security guard, Ifeanyi Ani, was reportedly beaten to death following a confrontation with a customer.
The incident began when the customer parked his car at the establishment, leaving the headlights on. Ani approached the vehicle to ask the driver to dim the lights, only to find the man’s wife sitting inside.
While explaining the request to the woman, the customer emerged and questioned the security guard about the conversation. According to eyewitness accounts, an argument ensued, with Ani attempting to clarify that he was simply requesting that the headlights be turned off.
Sources revealed that the situation escalated quickly when the customer allegedly struck Ani multiple times. The assault caused Ani to collapse, and he later died from his injuries.
A witness described the altercation as chaotic, with onlookers attempting to intervene, but the customer continued to assault the guard. It was later confirmed that Ani was from Enugu State.

“It was like a movie. People tried to intervene, but the man refused to stop and kept hitting the security guard. I think the deceased was from Enugu State,” a source.
Following the incident, the management of the eatery apprehended the suspect and handed him over to the Mini-Okoro Police Division.
Speaking on the matter, a rights group, the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign, stated that the deceased’s sister, Chinaza Ani, had approached them alongside their partner organisation, ‘Lawyers Watch for Justice International Initiative,’ in search of justice.
However, the National Coordinator of the centre, Prince Wiro, disclosed that Chinaza later asked the organisation to hold off on action as the family planned to meet with certain individuals regarding the case.
The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident and the suspect’s arrest.
“Yes, I can confirm the incident. The man has been arrested and is in our custody. The investigation is ongoing,” she said.
