Abure! Supreme Court Says Courts Lack Jurisdiction Over Party Affairs
In a landmark decision handed down on Friday, the Supreme Court unanimously ruled that the appellate court had no authority to endorse the leadership of the Labour Party (LP), affirming that disputes over party leadership fall outside the jurisdiction of the judiciary.
In a landmark decision handed down on Friday, the Supreme Court unanimously ruled that the appellate court had no authority to endorse the leadership of the Labour Party (LP), affirming that disputes over party leadership fall outside the jurisdiction of the judiciary.

The five-judge panel clarified that matters related to the internal affairs of a political party, including its leadership, cannot be adjudicated by the courts.

The apex court’s ruling came in response to an appeal filed by Senator Nenadi Usman and another party member, which was deemed to have merit by the court.
This decision marks a significant shift in the handling of party leadership disputes within the Nigerian legal system.
