Fr. Alia Ignores Benue Victims, Declares Public Holiday for Tinubu’s Visit
The Benue State Government has declared a public holiday in honour of President Bola Tinubu’s visit to the state, despite the recent tragic killing of over 200 people by terrorists.

The Benue State Government has declared a public holiday in honour of President Bola Tinubu’s visit to the state, despite the recent tragic killing of over 200 people by terrorists.
In a statement released on Tuesday and signed by Serumun Deborah Aber Esq., the Secretary to the State Government, it was announced that the holiday was intended to commemorate the President’s arrival.
Notably, there was no public holiday declared to mourn the victims of the attack in the Yelewata community, located in the Guma Local Government Area. Instead, the statement encouraged residents to come out in large numbers to welcome the President.

The declaration excluded essential workers, including health professionals, security personnel, and bank staff, from the holiday.
Earlier in the day, Benue State Governor Fr. Hyacinth Alia urged all registered support groups to gather in colourful attire to greet the President, seemingly overlooking the reason for his visit.
This decision drew criticism for its lack of empathy toward the victims of the attack, with many calling for the Governor’s impeachment for his failure to ensure the safety of the state.
