To boost local enterprise and promote digital innovation, Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has launched the Bayelsa E-Commerce Entrepreneurship Programme (BEEP), aimed at empowering young business owners to expand their reach through technology and online platforms.

The event, held at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall in Yenagoa on Tuesday, brought together over 500 micro, small, and medium-scale entrepreneurs nationwide. Themed “Made in Bayelsa, Sold To The World: Driving Prosperity Through Local Commerce,” the initiative seeks to drive economic growth through local production and global market access.
Governor Diri, in his keynote address, urged young entrepreneurs to embrace Information Technology as a tool for scaling their businesses and enhancing competitiveness in a digital economy.
The Governor praised the efforts of his Special Adviser on Investment, Mrs. Owanari Harry, for spearheading the programme, which he described as a critical step toward achieving economic self-reliance and sustainable development in the state.

A highlight of the event was the Governor’s swift approval of an interest-free loan facility of N740 million to two standout entrepreneurs Mrs. Tare Korumene, producer of eco-friendly hair extensions under the brand Bayelsa Dunaly Hair, and Mrs. Winsome Dan-Adere, who transforms plastic waste into marketable products through recycling.
“Touched by their innovation and commitment, I approved this funding to help expand their businesses. This support will not only inspire others but also contribute to job creation, poverty reduction, and wealth generation across Bayelsa,” Governor Diri stated.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for investment and youth empowerment under the “Government of Assured Prosperity.”
The BEEP initiative marks a significant step in the state’s ongoing efforts to foster entrepreneurship and position Bayelsa as a hub for innovation and locally-driven economic transformation.
