A coordinated joint military operation has successfully repelled an early morning infiltration attempt by Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists targeting the Nigerian Naval Base at Lake Chad Fish Dam, resulting in the deaths of scores of insurgents.
According to military sources, the assault began around 2:00 a.m. when the terrorists launched an attack aimed at destroying newly acquired Swamp Boggeys amphibious equipment procured by the Borno State Government to aid in clearing waterways in the Lake Chad region.
Personnel stationed at the Naval Base mounted a strong defense, bolstered by reinforcements from Baga, leading to a fierce firefight that lasted over two hours. The insurgents were eventually forced to retreat, leaving behind numerous casualties and improvised explosive device (IED) materials.

Despite the success of the operation, a limited breach led to the destruction of an ambulance and two other vehicles. Some military personnel sustained injuries but are receiving treatment.
Follow-up air operations are currently underway to pursue the fleeing terrorists and prevent further regrouping along the Lake Chad waterways.
The operation forms part of the ongoing military campaign under Operation Hadin Kai, aimed at eliminating insurgent threats in Nigeria’s northeast.
