Governor Alex Otti has commissioned the newly renovated, upgraded, and retrofitted Ngwu-Uzuakoli Primary Health Centre in Bende LGA under the first phase of the “Project Ekwueme” initiative, which has seen 200 out of 948 PHCs across Abia State made functional.

The Governor also used the occasion to commission 15 additional PHCs either completed or under renovation across the 13 electoral wards in Bende.
During his visit to Uzuakoli Practising School, Governor Otti received key political defectors, including Hon. Nnamdi Ibekwe, member representing Bende North in the Abia State House of Assembly, and over 50 former PDP and APC stalwarts who officially joined the Labour Party. Among them was Dr. Okey Ezeala, a former State Publicity Secretary of the APC.
Governor Otti reaffirmed that every community in Abia is included in his administration’s development plan and disclosed that within the last 10 days, 23 new projects have been commissioned across several LGAs, comprising 18 roads and 5 PHC projects, demonstrating his commitment to people-focused governance and effective utilization of public funds.

He encouraged communities to protect public infrastructure and reiterated that his vision is driven by service, not applause.
The Governor also inaugurated the Bende LGA Chapter of the Abia Arise movement, welcoming Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, the YPP Deputy Governorship candidate in the 2023 elections, into the group.
Dr. Anyaso described the Governor’s presence in Bende as historic and pledged continued support for good governance. He donated two coaster buses to the Abia Arise Bende family, promising to maintain and fuel them personally.
The Coordinator of Project Ekwueme in Abia North, Hon. Luke Ukara Onyeani, revealed that 64 PHCs are being retrofitted in the region, calling the impact mind-blowing and unprecedented in the Southeast. Top government officials and support groups were also present to show solidarity and commend the Governor’s visionary leadership.
