Charley Boy Questions Coalition Movement Ahead of 2027

Popular entertainer and social commentator Charles Oputa, widely known as Charly Boy, has issued a pointed critique of the growing political alliances ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, challenging the sincerity and motives behind calls for national unity.

In a post on his social media platforms, Oputa expressed scepticism about emerging coalitions and political figures who, despite past failures, now present themselves as agents of change.

“Everybody is shouting ‘Let’s unite and take back Nigeria.’ The noise is loud. The outrage? Clear,” he wrote. “But… unite for what exactly?”

Oputa questioned whether the current momentum for unity is truly rooted in a desire to rescue Nigeria or simply a scramble for political power. “Some of the same people that sank this country are suddenly singing redemption songs,” he noted, adding, “Sometimes, it’s just old wolves in new agbada.”

He warned Nigerians not to be swayed by appearances or political rebranding, urging citizens to differentiate between genuine reformers and recycled elites. “Are they shouting ‘enough is enough’ because they’ve changed, or because they’re no longer the ones benefiting?” he asked.

Oputa emphasised that the 2027 elections should not be driven by vengeance or superficial change, but by a genuine vision for national renewal. “We don’t just need new names. We need new values, new visions, and people with the guts to live by them,” he said.

Calling for vigilance, he urged Nigerians to ask hard questions and avoid falling into the trap of trading “one oppressor for another with nicer grammar.”

Oputa’s remarks come following the unveiling of the African Democratic Congress ADC as the coalition vehicle for the opposition parties as key political figures like the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President David Mark, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, former Governor of Kaduna State Nasir El-Rufai, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, former Governor of Osun State Rauf Aregbesola, Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed adopted the vehicle as an opposition coalition ahead of 2027.
