16 Dead as Container Crushes Bus on Calabar-Itu Highway

A fatal accident occurred today on the Calabar-Itu highway, claiming the lives of all 16 occupants of a commercial bus after a 40-foot container veered off its lane and capsized onto the vehicle.

According to eyewitness reports, the container-laden truck lost control due to the deplorable condition of the road, which has long been a source of concern for commuters and residents. The ill-fated 16-seater bus was en route to Calabar when the incident happened.

As of the time of filing this report, all 16 corpses have been recovered and taken to a nearby mortuary.

Residents and road users are once again calling on the federal and state governments to urgently rehabilitate the Calabar-Itu highway to prevent further loss of lives.
