RevolutionNow Convener Omoyele Sowore has been released from police custody following public outcry and pressure from civil society groups, including the revolutionary movement he leads.

Announcing his release via social media on Friday, Sowore said the Nigeria Police Force had “capitulated to the demands of the revolutionary movement,” describing his detention as “unjust, illegal, and unwarranted.”

While confirming his freedom, Sowore downplayed the moment as a victory, stating, “It is nothing to celebrate, but thank you for not giving up!”

Sowore’s arrest and alleged torture had sparked widespread condemnation, with rights groups such as SERAP demanding his immediate release and the prosecution of those responsible for his reported mistreatment.
