U.S. Embassy Warns Nigerian Applicants Against Omitting Social Media Handles

The United States Embassy in Nigeria has issued a stern warning to visa applicants, stressing the importance of disclosing all social media usernames or handles used within the last five years on the DS-160 visa application form.

In a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the embassy made it clear that failure to provide complete and accurate information, including social media details, could result in visa denial and potential ineligibility for future applications.

“Visa applicants are required to list all social media usernames or handles of every platform they have used over the last 5 years on the DS-160 visa application form,” the statement read.

“Applicants certify that the information in their visa application is true and correct before they sign and submit. Omitting social media information could lead to visa denial and ineligibility for future visas.”

The DS-160 form is a mandatory online application for non-immigrant U.S. visas, and the social media section was added in recent years as part of enhanced vetting procedures.

Applicants are advised to be thorough and honest in disclosing all requested information to avoid complications in the visa process.
