After ADC Loss, Obi Canvases for PVCs Registration

Former presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi, has called on Nigerians of all ages to take urgent action by registering to vote and collecting their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), describing them as a powerful tool for national transformation following the defeat suffered by the Coalition vehicle African Democratic Congress ADC in the just concluded Bye-Election in some States of the Federation.

Obi described the PVC as “the bridge to a New Nigeria,” and urged citizens to reject vote buying, which was witnessed in Kano, Kaduna, and Anambra States in the by-election, warning that those who trade their votes are empowering corrupt politicians to continue looting public resources.

“The greatest strength of democracy is in the voter’s card. Your PVC is the voice of the voiceless, the shield of the weak, and the weapon of the poor for a better life,” Obi said. “Get organised and make election rigging difficult.”

He condemned the practice of vote buying, likening it to an investment in corruption by politicians who seek office for personal enrichment rather than public service.

“Those who buy votes are not offering you charity; they are investing in their own corruption… They are no better than killers, armed robbers, and kidnappers because they commit the same crime of destruction,” he stated.

He also warned voters against selling their votes, saying it is not just an election they are selling, but their future including education, healthcare, and employment opportunities.

“The power to change this country is in your hands. Your vote counts. If it didn’t, they would not be desperately buying it,” Obi added.

Encouraging citizens to vote for leaders with “competence, character, capacity, and compassion,” Obi urged Nigerians not to be intimidated or deceived.
