Unizik Acting VC Suspends Medical and Security Staff Over Death of Female Law Student
The Acting Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Carol Arinze-Umobi, has ordered the immediate suspension of all doctors, nurses, and security personnel who were on duty at the university’s medical centre on the day a female 100-level law student, Miss Isabella Chioma Ajana, tragically passed away.

According to reports, Miss Ajana was rushed to the university clinic for emergency medical attention but allegedly did not receive the urgent care required. Further reports indicate that she had earlier been denied access to spare keys to her hostel room keys which would have allowed her to retrieve critical medication for a health condition she was managing.

The hostel in question is said to be jointly owned by the university and a private management company. It is alleged that the hostel supervisor on duty at the time, who had custody of the spare keys, refused to release them, preventing the deceased from accessing her drugs. This delay is believed to have significantly contributed to her death.
In response, Prof. Arinze-Umobi has also directed that the said hostel supervisor be dismissed with immediate effect.
