Ubani Lauds Umu Aro for Rich Cultural Heritage, Says ‘I’m beginning to think that I am from Arochukwu’

Dr Monday Onyekachi Ubani SAN, the Chairman of Ekekpe Day, lauded the people of Arochukwu for their rich cultural display and preservation of tradition during the grand finale of the Ikeji Aro-Okeigbo 2025. He expressed that he was starting to feel a connection to the revered Kingdom.

In his opening remarks on Friday at the Ikeji-Aro 2025 celebration, he emphasised his appreciation for discovering a community that shares his love for tradition. He encouraged the people to continue cherishing their cultural heritage, stating that it is the essence of their identity.

“I’m beginning to think that I am from Arochukwu. I am happy to have finally discovered my roots among a people who value tradition, transparency, and accountability. After witnessing what is happening here today, I feel as though I have been adopted as a son of the soil,” he said.

Mazi Nnadozie Udensi, the President General of Nzuko Aro Worldwide, expressed his gratitude to the people of Arochukwu and emphasised that the day was one of thanksgiving. He wished everyone a wonderful celebration and prayed for safe travels back to their destinations.

Before cutting the new yams, Eze Eberechukwu Oji offered a prayer for strength in the coming years. He called for the community’s continued support and reminded them of the essence of Ikeji, which is thanksgiving.

In an unexpected gesture, one of the program’s sponsors, Keystone Bank, presented a check for one million naira as a token of support for Ikeji-Aro.

Ogbonnaya Okereke, General Manager of ASEPA, delivered a goodwill message calling for greater support for leaders while commending the planning committee for organising a unique celebration.

The Chairman of the Abia State Traditional Rulers Council, His Royal Highness Eze Linus Nto Mbah, remarked that the 2025 edition of Ikeji-Aro was unique. He noted the importance of yam cultivation and consumption, affirming that the Arochukwu Kingdom is renowned for its deep-rooted culture. He prayed for sustained prosperity for the people.

“When we look at the state, we can see significant transformation thanks to our son, Dr Alex Otti, who has made strides in road construction, health, education, and other areas. We should support him,” he stated.

In his remarks, the Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Chioma Otti OFR, represented by the Commissioner for Arts, Culture, and Tourism, Dr Mathew Ekwuribe, assured the attendees that Ikeji-Aro is more than just entertainment; it serves to preserve the culture passed down from their forefathers.

“Tradition is our way of life and must be maintained. Dr Otti is working to build and retrofit our cultural sites and heritage to ensure the preservation of our culture,” he said.
