Abia Set to Host First Tertiary Institution Games

The Ministry of Tertiary Education is organising the 1st Edition of the Abia State Tertiary Institution Games, as approved by the Governor, Dr Alex Otti.

According to the information made available to the news media, the Tertiary Institution Games, which is the brainchild of the Honourable Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Prof. Uche Eme-Uche, will be competed among all public and private institutions in the state.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Tertiary Education and Chairman of the Central Organising Committee, Dr Emeka Enyeazu who revealed this while addressing members of the Central Organising Committee during their Inaugural Meeting held at the Board Room of the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Umuahia noted that the games are aimed at enhancing sporting activities in our tertiary institutions.

He appreciated the Governor, Dr Alex Otti, for his visionary leadership and steadfast commitment to youth development and educational advancement, which enabled the approval and organisation of the games that will take place from the 28th to the 31st of this month at the Umuahia Township Stadium.

In her speech, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs Chinyere Okeziem-Nwoko, encouraged all members of the Central Organising Committee to demonstrate a high level of professionalism in the discharge of their duties to meet the target set by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Professor Uche Eme-Uche, for the games.

Chairmen of the Sub Committees include: Comrade Obioma George, – Technical Committee, Chinyere Okeziem-Nwoko – Ceremonials, Mr Dodoh Okafor – Marketing, Sir Ken Nwosu – Security, Mr Francis Nwaubani – Media/Publicity, and Mr Chidiebere Nnanna – Accommodation Committee.

Others are, Dr Peter Ochega – Medical Committee, Lady Nwomiko Udo-Nwokocha – Monitoring & Evaluation, Mrs Nwakaego Okoji – Sanitation, Mrs Glory Nwafor Documentation/Accreditation and Dr Emeka Enyiazu, Mobilisation/Sensitisation Committee
