The Abia State Police Command has rescued 18 children including 8 infants and arrested 10 suspects in connection with a child-stealing and trafficking syndicate operating across several parts of Aba and its environs.

The operation, which unfolded over a span of three days, was initiated following a disturbing report lodged on September 27, 2025, at the Ohuru Isimiri Divisional Headquarters. A woman from Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, reported that she had been lured to Aba under the pretext of marriage. Upon arrival, the man who invited her asked her to buy food while he stayed with her two children. She returned to find both the man and her children gone. All attempts to contact him proved futile.

Acting on actionable intelligence, police operatives raided a suspected child-holding residence on October 8, 2025, arresting five individuals and rescuing one infant and seven children. The suspects arrested at the scene were identified as Mrs. Best Ndubusi (41), Charles Enyinnaya (25), Eunice Ezekiel (35), Nnena Kalu (60), and Gideon Esther (25).

The next day, October 9, law enforcement officers stormed another location along Aba/Owerri Road, leading to the arrest of four more suspects Obiegbunam Von (65), Ezeoma Rejoice (21), Ngozi Owoh (20), and Favour Ernest (22) and the rescue of seven infants and three children.

A follow-up operation on October 10 led to the arrest of a tenth suspect, Brittney Oyemuwa Zion (22), and the recovery of one more child. All suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

Authorities are calling on members of the public searching for their missing children to visit the Gender Section of the SCID or contact the Officer in Charge of Gender via 08033173846.

Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety of all residents in Abia State. He urged the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to nearby police stations or through the Command’s emergency hotlines:

“See Something, Say Something! Together, Let’s Make Abia Safe,” the police statement concluded.
