Breaking News: Police Arrest Omoyele Sowore
The Nigerian Police have arrested Omoyele Sowore, the convener of the #FreeMaziNnamdiKanu protest held on October 20, 2025.

This was confirmed by lawyer Barrister Inibehe Effiong, who stated on Thursday: “The arrest of Omoyele Sowore at the Federal High Court in Abuja moments ago is preposterous. The police and the Tinubu regime are making a mockery of our judicial system. He should be freed immediately. Stop the shenanigans.”
Sowore had been at the Federal High Court for the trial of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who began his defence today, while his lead counsel, Kanu Agabi, and the rest of the team withdrew.
There have been calls for Sowore’s arrest following the arrests of Prince Emmanuel Kanu, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, and others at the protest site. Sowore, who convened the protest, had initially fled the area but later went to the police station, where he was not arrested at that time.
