Tinubu Orders Emergency NEC Meeting on National Ranching Plan
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to convene an emergency session of the National Economic Council (NEC) to expedite the rollout of the national ranching plan.

Speaking during Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, the President said the meeting will focus on advancing Nigeria’s transition from open grazing to modern ranching systems, a key component of the Ministry of Livestock Development’s agenda.
The President described the shift to ranching as vital for sustainable livestock production, reducing farmer-herder tensions, and promoting national cohesion. He urged states and stakeholders to fully support the initiative, stressing that modern ranching offers long-term solutions to recurring clashes linked to open grazing.
These steps, Tinubu said, form part of his administration’s wider security and economic reforms, which include recent approvals for extensive police and military recruitment to boost national security capacity.
The President also reiterated his directive for the immediate withdrawal of police officers assigned as escorts to Very Important Persons (VIPs), insisting that the nation can no longer afford delays in redeploying personnel to critical security operations.
Tinubu restated the order first issued in November following reports of incomplete compliance. The President emphasised that the Nigeria Police Force must channel its limited manpower toward combating insurgency, banditry, and other growing threats across the country.
