ADC Holds Congress, Elects Barrister Kalu Kalu Agu as New Chairman in Abia

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has elected a new Abia State Executive with Barrister Kalu Kalu Agu as Chairman with a mandate to uphold the Constitution and unify the Party by establishing a harmonisation committee to address the concerns of aggrieved members.

This was made known at the State Congress, held at the Kolping Event Centre, World Bank Housing Estate, Umuahia. Chief Onwe Frederick, the Chairman of the Congress Committee, stated that the spirit of sportsmanship must be embraced and maintained, and that there is nothing else to do in Abia State but to promote peace.

Speaking to journalists, Chief Onwe emphasised that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has already approved the Congress, which aligns with the Party’s actions.

“We have harmonised our leaders in ADC so ADC is one today in Abia State. We have reconciliation going on everywhere and we will have a permanent solution.”

Meanwhile, Longman Emeka Nwachukwu Esq. affirmed that the individuals called are duly elected representatives from various wards and Local Government Areas, and that they hold substantive executive positions in Abia State.

Contributing, the delegates from Abia North, South, and Central confirmed that the wards and Local Government Areas have completed their congresses and stated that the purpose was to bring reconciliation, which they achieved. They noted that aggrieved members have been pacified and expressed hope that the Party will stand strongly to win various elections.

In his acceptance speech, Barrister Kalu Kalu praised his opponent for endorsing him as the State Chairman of ADC in Abia State. He declared that Abia State ADC will assume the leadership and will sweep any forthcoming election. “Our immediate priority is to harmonise all factions within the State.

“A house divided against itself cannot stand. I hereby nominate Engr Uchenna Okagbuo to chair the ADC Reconciliation Committee, aimed at reintegrating our members into Abia ADC,” he said.

While speaking about the readiness of the Party in the upcoming election, the new State Publicity Secretary of the Party Frances Ogbonnaya maintained that there’s no faction in the Party. She stated that the former Chairman of the Party Obinna Don Norman was suspended in August 2025 while a court order stopped him from parading as the State Chairman of the Party.

“This is a new dawn for Abia ADC. The people should expect a more receptive ADC in Abia State. ADC in Abia is one of the strongest ADCs in the Country. We are the party to beat.”
