Amaechi Rejects ADC Presidential Primary Results, Alleges Massive Disenfranchisement
Former Minister of Transportation and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has rejected the outcome of the party’s presidential primaries, describing the results as “concocted” and lacking credibility.

In a statement on Tuesday, Amaechi alleged that widespread voter disenfranchisement marred the exercise across most parts of the country, insisting that the process failed to meet the standards of fairness, transparency, and credibility expected of the party.
According to him, he had earlier made it clear that he would only accept the outcome of the primaries if the exercise were conducted in a free and transparent manner.
“I unequivocally reject the concocted results being announced,” Amaechi declared, stressing that he would not accept results from a process that failed to reflect the democratic values the ADC claimed to represent.
The former Rivers State governor accused party officials of denying a significant percentage of members the opportunity to vote, claiming that nearly 80 per cent of party members were disenfranchised during the exercise.
“There’s no way that about eighty per cent of members of the party were not allowed to vote, and you expect me to accept such results,” he said.
Amaechi further argued that the ADC was established to offer Nigerians a credible political alternative capable of addressing the country’s governance challenges, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or social background.
He also accused the party of hypocrisy, alleging that the same practices the ADC had criticised in the ruling All Progressives Congress and the Independent National Electoral Commission were repeated during the primaries.
“A party that criticises the ruling APC and INEC for vote buying, rigging and writing of results, cannot be engaged in vote buying, writing of results, and other electoral malpractices,” he stated.
Amaechi maintained that the alleged irregularities and disenfranchisement of party members were unacceptable and contrary to the principles of internal democracy.
While the official result is yet to be announced, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has taken an early lead in winning most States of the Federation.
