“No Matter Who You Are, You Cannot Drive Your Car Without a Number Plate” – IGP Warns Motorists
The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has cautioned motorists nationwide that driving without a valid number plate or with a covered number plate will no longer be tolerated, emphasising that offenders will be arrested and prosecuted.

In discussing the development, the IGP stressed that no individual, regardless of status or influence, would be exempt from law enforcement.
“It doesn’t matter who you are, you cannot drive your car without a number plate or a covered number plate in Nigeria any longer. If you do, we’re going to arrest you and we’re going to take you to court,” he said.
According to him, the practice of covering vehicle registration plates has also become a status symbol among some motorists, a trend he described as unacceptable.
“A lot of crimes have been committed by people covering their number plates, and they have turned it into a status symbol,” the IGP added.
He also stated that impunity within the Police Force is being addressed as officers are being dismissed if found guilty of a reported crime.
