The Federal Government has officially handed over the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, to Aero Alliance Limited under a 30-year concession agreement aimed at improving the airport’s infrastructure, operational efficiency, and service delivery.

The handover ceremony took place on Thursday and was overseen by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, who described the concession as a major milestone in the government’s efforts to modernise the nation’s aviation sector through strategic private sector participation.

Speaking at the event, Keyamo said the agreement would attract much-needed investment into the airport, enhance passenger experience, and position the facility as a key aviation hub in the South-East region.

According to the minister, the concession arrangement is designed to ensure sustainable management of the airport while maintaining regulatory oversight by the Federal Government. He noted that the partnership aligns with the administration’s broader agenda of leveraging private capital to upgrade critical infrastructure across the country.

Under the terms of the agreement, Aero Alliance Limited will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and development of the airport for the next 30 years.
