‘Starting an Akara Business Doesn’t Take Much’ – First Lady Remi Tinubu to Nigerians
First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has said starting small businesses such as selling akara, roasted corn, or kuli-kuli does not require huge capital, urging Nigerians to embrace entrepreneurship while assuring them that the Federal Government is providing grants to support livelihoods.

Speaking during her investiture as the Grand Matron of the Nigerian Red Cross Society in Abuja, the First Lady said many Nigerians could begin income-generating ventures with modest resources.
“To start an akara business doesn’t take a lot of money. To start roasting corn or kuli-kuli doesn’t take much. We didn’t give them a loan, we gave them a grant. We have encouraged Nigerians as best as we could. I also gave to several others,” she said.
Senator Tinubu called on Nigerians not to lose hope despite the country’s economic challenges, maintaining that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is rebuilding the nation after years of decline.
“Nigerians must not lose hope. Tinubu is fixing what others destroyed,” she added.
The First Lady made the remarks while receiving the honour of Grand Matron of the Nigerian Red Cross Society during a courtesy visit by the society’s leadership and its international partners.
Reaffirming her commitment to humanitarian service, she stressed the importance of compassion and sustained support for vulnerable communities across the country, pledging to continue promoting initiatives that improve the welfare of Nigerians.
The investiture ceremony featured her decoration as Grand Matron, the presentation of a plaque of recognition, and a commemorative First Aid Kit by the Nigerian Red Cross Society.
The event was attended by representatives of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), as well as partners from the British Red Cross and the Norwegian Red Cross.
