Press Release

Black Saturday at Nkwommiri Market, Nwangele LGA and The Need To Dish Accurate Information.

All Saturday events for people of Umuozu in Nwangele LGA and other neighbouring communities have been brought to an abrupt halt following a ghastly motor incident at the popular Nkwommiri Market in the Orlu-Anara expressway.

Our sources informed that 5 persons who were occupants of a tricycle plying the route have been confirmed dead.

It is also understood that several others are at the St. Mary’s Joint Hospital Amaigbo where they were quickly rushed for immediate medical attention.

Hon. Ozurigbo Ugonna has called the matron of the hospital informing her to take in the wounded without requesting a fee as saving lives is more important; in that manner, he has also deposited some funds into the hospital account to ensure treatment is administered immediately to the wounded.

Several headlines have been awash with information that 20 market women have been killed in the highly inaccurate incident.

We wish to inform the media to handle this fragile situation with the utmost professionalism by ensuring the stories as regards the accident they put out is accurate to avoid escalating the already existing panic.

We wish to also thank the youths and people within the area who volunteered themselves to administer first aid and rush the injured to the closest hospital for their imagination and quick response.

We will keep you abreast with more details as the day goes by.

May God in his infinite mercy grant a peaceful rest to those who have died due to this avoidable incident.

Signed
Dike Philip
