Trailer Rams into Bus Carrying UniJos Students, Causing Multiple Fatalities

A tragic accident occurred in the early hours of Thursday along the Zaria Road Stadium axis, resulting in the loss of several students from the University of Jos.

The incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. when a trailer allegedly collided with a bus carrying students who were returning from an event.

Initial reports indicate that eight students died immediately, with only two surviving the crash.

In response to the incident, Kangyang Pwajok, SUG President of the University of Jos (UNIJOS), stated that the President of the National Association of Plateau State Students (NAPSS) and the President of the Social Sciences Students’ Association (SOSSA) were among the deceased, along with the driver.

She mentioned that the SUG Executives have visited the mortuaries where the remains of the deceased students have been taken, offering support and checking on the condition of those affected.

Several other students survived and are now receiving treatment in various hospitals. The Directorate of Students’ Affairs and the University Management have been actively involved since the news broke, ensuring the injured receive prompt and proper medical care.

The University is expected to make an official statement soon. Members of the campus community are advised to remain calm and to keep the families, friends, and colleagues of the victims in their thoughts during this challenging time.
