2023 Gubernatorial Election: Abia Speaker Calls for Peace

Ahead of the 2023 governorship election, the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji has called for peace in the State stating that no human being was born with the mark of a governor but that all power belongs to God.

Rt. Hon. Orji said this while hosting stakeholders of his Constituency at the Speaker’s lodge in government house, Umuahia on Saturday, 5th of February 2022.

According to the Speaker, the Governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu will hand over power as he was also handed over power to and called on all Abians to maintain peace in the State.
“Nobody was born with a mark of Governor because power belongs to God. We handed overpower and the present Governor will also hand over power.”

Speaking on the Electoral Amendment Bill, the Speaker revealed that the proposed bill will mandate the party to select candidates who can win elections.
“With the proposed electoral act, anybody that wants to vie election must be able to win the election. Nobody should disturb themselves about the election but there must be peace in our State and on that, I stand.”

The speaker further stated that anybody in politics has to understand the people and especially the youths. “You have to know what the youths want and know how to reach out to them.
I’m a stakeholder in PDP but will attend the events of other political parties. Our Constituency is the biggest and strongest in the whole of Abia State. If you can win the Constituency then you can win any election. We have so many people of different types in our Constituency just pray that anybody who will take over from me will be someone that will consider the people. It’s not always about money but respect and humility so we have to organize ourselves, whatever we want, we can achieve.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of 5 Sienna Vehicles to PDP party leaders in Abia Central, namely; the Zonal Manager of Abia Central, Honourable Chukwudi Ezebuiro, the State Treasurer of PDP, Honourable Prince Ben Okezie (Onowu), the ward 1 chairman of PDP, Aguiyi Okezie, Chairman of ward 2
Honourable Emeh Odeghi and the Ward Chairman of ward 3, Honourable Ibe Augustine.

“What we have done for the Party is what we are supposed to do. We have been doing it.
By the first week of March, the leaders will organise another meeting and we will gather to do what we are supposed to do. We hope that all our interests will be highly considered in the scheme of things in the State. There must be peace in the State. If you are close to me or working with me, you must not insult the government of the State for which I’m part. We thank everyone for coming out today to witness this event” the Speaker concluded.

Responding, the different wards thanked the Speaker for his benevolence towards the parties and prayed for more of God’s grace on him.

The event witnessed the presence of Chief G. O. Onyemaobi, Dr Charles Obioha Ogbonna (Evulogu Ibeku) stakeholders of wards 1, 2, 3, the Umuahia North Council and a host of other dignitaries.
