Police Arrest INEC Staff Extorting PVC Owners

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested 41-year-old Chinwendu Nnamani for allegedly selling INEC Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) for the sum of one thousand nairas (N1,000.00), at Emene Enugu.

The suspect was caught in a viral video extorting money from registered voters before issuing their Permanent Voters Card on the 31st of January 2023.

A statement by the Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe on Wednesday revealed that the suspect has been arrested alongside another staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Part of the statement reads, “Also arrested is one Nkiruka Patience Obinna aged 38, identified as an INEC Staff and alleged to have given the said Cards to the first suspect for distribution to the actual owners.

The investigation has been concluded, the case charged to court, in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022, and the suspects arraigned accordingly. The suspects were granted bail and the case adjourned to 15/02/2023 for further hearing.”
