A tragic incident has rocked the Imo Lane community off Owerri Road in Umuahia, Abia State, following the death of a young man who was reportedly shot by Operation Crush.

According to eyewitness accounts and local sources, the deceased, whose identity has not been officially disclosed at the time of reporting, was involved in a dispute with a fellow youth in the neighborhood. The other party allegedly contacted security personnel, who swiftly arrived at the scene.
Upon sighting the operatives, the young man reportedly attempted to flee. In the ensuing chase, an officer allegedly fired a close-range shot, striking the victim in the abdomen. The bullet reportedly exited his body and damaged the windshield of a parked SUV nearby.

Witnesses say the young man collapsed, gasping for breath, as the operatives looked on for several minutes before leaving the scene without offering any assistance.
Residents, alarmed by the gunfire and drawn by the commotion, rushed out. A few brave individuals managed to transport the injured victim to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia, using a commercial tricycle (keke).
In a disturbing twist, security agents allegedly attempted to arrest the boys who had taken the victim to the hospital.
Initial reports later surfaced suggesting the victim was responding to treatment. However, his family confirmed that he passed away hours later.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the shooting or the conduct of the operatives involved.
