Abia State Launches Tertiary Education Sports Fiesta, Emphasizes Unity and Excellence

The Abia State Government has launched the Abia State Tertiary Education Sports Fiesta, aiming to foster unity, talent development, and youth engagement across tertiary institutions. The flag-off ceremony, held at Nvosi in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, brought together top government officials.

Deputy Governor Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, representing Governor Dr. Alex Otti, flagged off the torch run, symbolizing the start of the sporting festival. He emphasized that the torch represents hope, unity, and renewed purpose for Abia youths, saying, “Today, we light a torch not merely of fire, but of hope, passion, and youthful energy.”

The torch will carry the message of unity, discipline, and excellence to 28 participating institutions, promoting youth development and sportsmanship.

The Commissioner for Education, Professor Uche Eme Uche, described the fiesta as a bold step towards providing students with a sense of belonging and inclusion, encouraging active participation in sporting and creative competitions.

Also speaking the Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Sir Nwobilo Wadimma Ananaba, emphasized the governor’s vision for grassroots sports development, aiming to identify and nurture outstanding talents.

The Abia State Tertiary Education Sports Fiesta will feature 28 tertiary institutions from November 25 to 29, 2025, promoting youth development, sportsmanship, and the ‘Abia Spirit’ of excellence.
