The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed widespread social media reports alleging an attempted assassination of Lt. Ahmed Yerima, describing the claims as entirely false and unsubstantiated.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Command said no such incident had been reported or recorded anywhere within the FCT. The clarification follows initial reports from multiple online platforms claiming that Yerima was trailed by two unmarked Hilux vans without number plates, leading to a high-speed chase and a “tactical manoeuvre” that allegedly saved his life.

Reacting to the reports, the Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh (ANIPR), urged the public to disregard what she termed misleading information capable of inciting unnecessary panic among residents.

“The Command wishes to categorically state that no such incident has been reported or recorded anywhere within the Federal Capital Territory. The public is advised to disregard this false information and desist from spreading unverified claims capable of causing unnecessary panic,” the statement read.

The Command also encouraged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest Police Division or directly to the Command Headquarters via its emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08068587311.

SP Adeh reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents within the FCT.
