The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, confirmed on Thursday the recall of 11,566 officers who were previously assigned to guard Very Important Persons (VIPs).

Egbetokun revealed that these officers have now been redeployed to underserved and vulnerable communities across the country, in line with a directive from Bola Tinubu.

Speaking at a meeting with senior police commanders in Abuja, the IGP said the redeployment is part of broader reforms aimed at strengthening internal security, improving police presence in remote areas, and enhancing community policing.

He added that the move is expected to deepen community engagement, shorten police response times, and ensure more equitable distribution of manpower a “big win” for ordinary Nigerians, especially those in high-risk or underserved communities.

IGP is now ready to deal with the VIPs especially Senators for passing the Bill to exit the Police from CPS. He is going to withdraw their Orderlies, CSOs, Escort Commanders etc. Let’s see who’ll guard them. But, to whose benefits? IGP, you’re joking with people’s lives if you do this withdrawal.
