Enugu State, UNDP Sign Landmark MoU to Drive Smart, Inclusive Development
The Enugu State Government has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Nigeria, formally integrating the state into the Integrated Smart States Programme for Accelerated Development (2025–2027).

Governor Peter Mbah announced the development on Tuesday, describing the agreement as a major milestone in the growing partnership between Enugu State and the UNDP, as well as a significant step toward implementing the development blueprint presented to the state’s people during the election campaign.
According to the governor, the administration made a firm commitment from the outset to eradicate poverty in Enugu State and achieve a zero-poverty headcount index. He emphasised that such an ambitious goal can only be achieved through strategic collaboration and strong partnerships, making the engagement with UNDP particularly crucial.
Governor Mbah noted that transparency and accountability remain core principles of his administration’s governance approach. He explained that the MoU prioritises fund traceability, strict value-for-money standards, and transparent procurement processes to ensure optimal use of every kobo or dollar spent.

The partnership, he said, will play a vital role in supporting the state’s vision of accelerated, inclusive growth and sustainable development, while helping the government fulfil its promises to the people of Enugu State.
Reaffirming his administration’s forward-looking agenda, Governor Mbah said the collaboration with UNDP represents a concrete step toward building a smarter, more prosperous Enugu State, declaring that “tomorrow is here.”
