Police Arrest Apprentice for Murdering Boss, Assaulting Wife in Onitsha
A 21-year-old man, Chiemerie Anieke, has been taken into police custody for allegedly killing his master and attacking his wife in the early hours of February 15, 2026, in Onitsha, Anambra State.

According to a statement by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command on Monday, the suspect allegedly used a pestle to strike his master, Mr Ikechukwu Nwite, on the head, resulting in his death. He also reportedly attacked the deceased’s wife, Mrs Ogechukwu Nwite, during the incident.
Police authorities said the pestle used in the attack has been recovered from the scene.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect may have been provoked by repeated admonitions from the late Ikechukwu over alleged misconduct, including pilfering money meant for the shop, staying out late at night, and drug use.
Mrs Nwite was rescued and rushed to a hospital, where she is said to be responding to treatment.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka for a thorough investigation.
