Kalu Launches Education Support Initiative, Urges Students to Aim for National Leadership
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu has reiterated his dedication to advancing education and motivating Nigerian students to strive for excellence through learning and patriotism.

Addressing students during an educational support programme for selected schools, Kalu encouraged young learners to have confidence in their abilities, stressing that they could grow into successful doctors, lawyers, engineers, public officials, and leaders capable of achieving even greater accomplishments than his own.
He explained that the programme aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, which seeks to improve the nation’s education system and secure a brighter future for children.
According to the Deputy Speaker, education remains a vital instrument for national growth and a key solution to many of the country’s challenges.
Kalu noted that the initiative focuses on providing schools with essential learning materials and improving classroom conditions to ensure students have a more conducive environment for study. He added that the intervention would help eliminate situations where pupils lack basic facilities or are forced to sit on bare floors.
As part of the programme, the benefiting schools will receive lockers, books, and school bags. He revealed that the furniture has been designed in Nigeria’s green-white-green national colours to instil patriotism and national pride among students.
He urged the pupils to remain proud of their country and to develop the mindset of contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s progress in the future.
Kalu further disclosed that 26 schools have already been selected for the first phase of the intervention, while another 26 schools are expected to benefit during the second phase.
The lawmaker also announced plans to introduce academic competitions such as debates, mathematics quizzes, and English language contests aimed at encouraging excellence among students. Outstanding participants and schools, he said, would be rewarded with trophies and prizes.
He emphasised that the programme goes beyond school attendance, focusing instead on helping students understand their education and preparing them to become future innovators and problem-solvers for the nation.
