2027: ASA Liberation Movement Chooses Adinigwe Nwoke As Ukwa East/West Consensus Candidate
The ASA Liberation Movement (ALM) has selected Engr. Adinigwe Ugochukwu Nwoke, the Labour Party candidate, as its preferred consensus candidate for the Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The decision followed a consultative process culminating in a mock election conducted on Saturday, 24th October 2026, at the country home of the movement’s President, Hon. Emeka Adiele.
The exercise marks a significant step in the movement’s quest to build a common political front, strengthen collective decision-making, and advance the interests of the Asa people through purposeful representation.
*HOW THE DECISION WAS REACHED:*
At its general meeting held on Monday, 12th October 2026, the movement resolved to entrust the responsibility of selecting its preferred candidates to its executives and stakeholders.
In line with that resolution, a mock election was conducted under the supervision of an electoral committee chaired by Comrade Precious Nwogboso, with Chukwudi Iwu serving as Secretary.
Out of the 29 participants invited to the exercise, 23 cast their votes, producing the following results:
*OFFICIAL RESULTS OF THE MOCK ELECTION*
Engr. Adinigwe Ugochukwu Nwoke — Labour Party: 17 votes
Barr. Sam Nworgu — APC: 6 votes
Barr. Chimela Oforji — NDC: 0 votes
At the conclusion of the ballot counting, Engr. Adinigwe Ugochukwu Nwoke emerged with 17 votes, securing a clear majority and earning the position of the movement’s preferred candidate.
His selection will be presented for formal adoption on a date to be announced by the leadership of the Asa Liberation Movement.
For the Asa Liberation Movement, this decision goes beyond the selection of a preferred candidate. It represents a deliberate effort to build political consensus, promote internal democracy, and establish a common direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The movement believes that the people of Ukwa East and Ukwa West deserve effective representation, strategic advocacy, improved constituency development, and leadership that prioritises the welfare and aspirations of the people.
ALM maintains that the ultimate objective must be to promote the collective interest of the Ukwa people, strengthen their political voice, and ensure that their legitimate concerns receive the attention they deserve.
*A CALL FOR PEACE, DISCIPLINE, AND COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY*
Following the outcome of the exercise, the movement has called on its members, supporters, and stakeholders to remain peaceful, disciplined, and committed to the ideals of unity and collective progress.
It also encouraged sustained engagement with political leaders, traditional and community stakeholders, youth groups, women, and other relevant segments of Ukwa society to foster understanding and build a stronger foundation for the movement’s political objectives.
The leadership emphasised that the mock election demonstrates ALM’s commitment to consultation, participation, and internal democratic processes. It further clarified that the candidate’s final adoption remains subject to the movement’s formal adoption process.
*THE TIME TO SPEAK WITH ONE VOICE*
As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Asa Liberation Movement reaffirms its commitment to unity, collective responsibility, and purposeful leadership.
The movement believes that the future of Asa must be shaped by informed decisions, meaningful consultations, and a shared determination to secure better opportunities and effective representation for its people.
With the emergence of Engr. Adinigwe Ugochukwu Nwoke as its preferred candidate, ALM has taken an important step toward defining its political direction for the forthcoming elections.
The movement therefore calls on all well-meaning sons and daughters of Asa to embrace peace, respect the consultative process, and remain focused on the greater good of the people.
The task ahead demands unity.
The moment calls for wisdom.
The future requires collective action.
Together, let us build a stronger Ukwa and advance the cause of our people.
