Man Who Absconded with Car While Test-driving Arrested
The Kano State Police Command has arrested three notorious suspects involved in a recent car snatching incident and recovered a stolen vehicle previously sold in the Niger Republic.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa on Monday, the suspects were apprehended following a report filed on July 7, 2025, by a car dealer, Abdulqadir Abdurrahman of Gadon Kaya Quarters, Kano.
The dealer alleged that a man later identified as Shamsu Yusuf, widely known as “Chitta,” visited Dangari Motors posing as a potential buyer. During a test drive, Yusuf absconded with a gold-colored 2013 Toyota Corolla belonging to Bashir Ridwan.
Acting on the report, operatives from the Command’s Special Intervention Squad (SIS), led by CSP Rabiu Gidado, launched a coordinated tactical operation which led to the arrest of Yusuf and his accomplices on July 17, 2025.
The accomplices were identified as 50-year-old Bashir Ladan of Shagari Quarters, and 41-year-old Suleiman Muntari of Tudun Matawalle both from Katsina State. The stolen vehicle was tracked down and recovered in the Niger Republic, where it had already been sold.
Police say Yusuf has confessed to his involvement in multiple car thefts, including a recently stolen Mercedes-Benz GLK.
Investigations into the case are ongoing.
