Nigeria Rolls Out New HIV Prevention Injection, Limits Use for Pregnant Women
Nigeria has announced the rollout of a new long-acting HIV prevention injection as part of efforts to curb new infections and expand access to modern prevention tools.

The initiative will begin in eight states; Anambra, Ebonyi, Gombe, Kwara, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Benue and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Health authorities say the injectable medication is designed to provide extended protection against HIV, offering an alternative to daily oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).
However, officials have placed restrictions on its use, noting that the injection will not be administered to pregnant women at this stage.
The phased rollout will focus on selected health facilities across the designated states, with trained healthcare providers overseeing administration and monitoring.
