ADC Youths Storm INEC Office, Demand Amupitan’s Resignation and Prosecution

Youths under the aegis of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) protested at the Benue State headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), calling for the immediate resignation of Professor Joash Amupitan, the INEC Chairman.

The protest, which took place in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, on Thursday saw a large number of youths march to the INEC office, chanting slogans and carrying placards which read ‘End the dictatorship before it ends Nigeria’ ‘Tinubu, Nigeria is not your family property’ demanding accountability and prosecution of Prof. Amupitan.

The protesters insisted that their demands reflect the will of the people and warned that they would not relent until action is taken.

Officials at the INEC state headquarters received a formal petition from the group during the protest.

According to the ADC National Youth Leader Balarabe Rufa’i, the petition outlines their grievances and calls for swift steps toward Amupitan’s resignation and subsequent legal proceedings.

“The message is clear: the youth are not backing down,” Rufa’i stated.

Amupitan has been embroiled in calls for his removal following his posts on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter, where he expressed support for the administration led by President Bola Tinubu before he was appointed Chairman of the country’s Electoral umpire.

So far, the INEC Chairman has denied owning an account on X while reiterating his commitment to serving the country.
