Odumeje Accuses FG of Politicising Onitsha Head Bridge Repairs
Pastor Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, popularly known as Odumeje, has accused the Federal Government of politicising the ongoing repair of the Onitsha Head Bridge in Anambra State.
Odumeje alleged that the Federal Government’s decision to repair the bridge was politically motivated, coming as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.
“The Federal Government has come to play politics with Onitsha Head Bridge. That is why, now that the election is close, they have come to repair it,” he said.
He further alleged that the amount budgeted for the project would shock Nigerians, expressing concern that the repair could take an unnecessarily long time before the bridge is reopened.
The cleric also criticised political elites in the South-East over what he described as their failure to demand greater federal presence and infrastructure for the region.
According to him, it is embarrassing that the South-East does not have an embassy or visa-processing facility, forcing residents to travel to Abuja or Lagos to obtain visas.
“When we talk about one Nigeria, every major tribe should have at least one seaport and one international embassy. But in the South-East, there is nothing,” Odumeje said.
He urged South-East leaders and elites to move beyond rhetoric and demand greater development and strategic federal institutions for the region.
“Our elites keep deceiving themselves,” he added.
