2027: Bourdex Unveils Enterprise Fund to Move Abia North From Handouts to Wealth Creation

Prominent industrialist and Labour Party candidate for Abia North Senatorial District, Chief Dr. David Ogba Onuoha Bourdex, has detailed a bold economic strategy aimed at shifting the senatorial district away from short-term political handouts toward self-sustaining wealth creation.

Speaking during the latest edition of the interactive radio program Bourdex Hour, the telecom pioneer emphasized that genuine economic transformation will not come from endless government appointments or temporary political patronage, but through structured, revolving enterprise financing that empowers private businesses across Abia North’s five local government areas.

Highlighting the mechanics of the proposed intervention, Chief Bourdex revealed how a professionally managed Revolving Enterprise Fund, operating in partnership with credible development finance institutions like the Bank of Industry, will create a continuous cycle of capital accessibility for local entrepreneurs.

“Support must be structured, transparent, and sustainable,” Bourdex asserted. “Under a revolving fund, we identify viable businesses under published rules. We provide support under agreed conditions. Those businesses grow, repay according to the program structure, and that same money becomes available to support another entrepreneur. Instead of capital disappearing after one political cycle, the same fund works repeatedly to build multi-generational independence.”

Addressing the systemic challenges facing small scale operators—from tailors in Ohafia and traders in Arochukwu to farmers and fabricators in Bende, Isuikwuato, and Umunneochi—Bourdex noted that government’s primary role must focus on establishing conducive environments rather than competing with private enterprise. He praised the infrastructural achievements of Abia State Governor, His Excellency Dr. Alex Otti, noting that critical investments in roads and public utilities provide the foundation required for commercial ingenuity to flourish.

Drawing from his foundational experience in building Bourdex Telecommunications, the senatorial hopeful explained the multiplier effect inherent in private enterprise. He noted that expanding a business from three employees to ten creates organic, lasting employment across ancillary logistics, maintenance, and supply channels.

To ensure equitable access without political bias, Chief Bourdex outlined plans to transform the Senatorial Office into a functional “Opportunity and Development Desk.” The specialized unit will actively track, simplify, and guide local enterprise owners through federal development programs, agriculture grants, and digital economy schemes originating from Abuja.

“I don’t want to measure success by how many people line up outside my gate asking for hand-outs,” Bourdex stated. “I measure success by how many people become economically independent, stand on their own feet, and employ others.”
