Abia Specialist Hospital Performs First Major Brain Surgery on 19-Year-Old Accident Victim
The Abia State Specialist Hospital and Diagnostic Centre in Umuahia has successfully performed its first major brain surgery.
The emergency procedure was carried out on a 19-year-old accident victim who was brought to the hospital unconscious with a life-threatening collection of blood within his skull.
According to the hospital, its multidisciplinary medical team successfully performed the four-hour surgery.
The patient is currently receiving care in the Intensive Care Unit and is said to be making a satisfactory recovery.
The hospital described the achievement as another major step towards bringing advanced specialist medical care closer to residents of Abia State.
