Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North Senatorial District, clashed with an interviewer who questioned why he protested fuel price increases under former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan but has supported the administration of President Bola Tinubu despite the significant rise in petrol prices.

The interviewer reminded Oshiomhole that he had led protests against fuel price increases during the Obasanjo administration, when petrol prices rose from about ₦3 to ₦7 per litre, and also protested when prices stood at ₦47 and later ₦97 and ₦197 under successive administrations.

He then asked why Oshiomhole was supporting the Tinubu administration despite petrol prices rising to about ₦1,500 per litre.

“You protested when fuel was ₦47 and ₦197 under President Goodluck, but didn’t protest when Buhari and Tinubu pushed it to ₦1,500. What changed, sir?” the interviewer asked.

Oshiomhole, however, reacted angrily, challenging the interviewer to state the current petrol price and accusing him of being disconnected from the realities faced by ordinary Nigerians.

“You spend too much time inside the studios. You don’t walk the streets,” Oshiomhole said, arguing that the interviewer did not know the current cost of petrol because, according to him, someone else probably refuels his vehicle.

The former Edo State governor repeatedly questioned the interviewer, asking, “Do you know how much fuel price is today?”

When the interviewer mentioned ₦1,500 per litre, Oshiomhole continued to challenge him and eventually rejected the line of questioning on fuel subsidy.

Asked again why he supported President Tinubu despite the sharp increase in petrol prices, Oshiomhole responded: “Who are you? Even if you are a military dictator, I will defy you. I won’t answer you.”
